Longing Girls
“Longing Girls” is the title of a collection of paintings by Katayoon Moghaddam. The series’ name is taken from a poem by Ahmad Shamloo, the renowned contemporary Iranian poet, however, with different meanings and implications.
In this collection, architecture, as an element alluding to patriarchal society, is used in lieu of an atmosphere that limits and encircles women. Girls who through passage of time from childhood to youth and middle and old age are subject to prejudices and regression. They experience various fears and violence or are lurked by them.
These girls are constantly longing. Yearning, longing and desiring is inherent in these “Longing Girls”.
